Rings and Such

Published by at 12:34 am under Wedding

Since he gave me the thrill to shop for my own engagement ring, I felt so lucky. I don’t want to be stuck with an ugly ring for the rest of my life. Yay! A big bling! I was shocked when he told me his budget but I thought that was too high. I told him with that amount, we’ll cover all three rings – engagement ring and our wedding bands.

For engagement ring, he wanted to get me a super nice bling so that I’ll feel happy wearing it all the time. Hey. I wasn’t going to go against that idea. ;P Basically, diamond will be the main focus here.

For wedding bands, we wanted rings that can be resized. At first, we wanted platinum since it is more lasting. White gold will need to be re-plated every few years or else it will lose its shape or turn yellowish. We wanted to have similar wedding bands because i personally think that that’s the whole point of having a wedding band. Nowadays, people like to use different designs for the bride and groom. But I wanted them to be the same. Therefore, it’s even harder to find a suitable pair. It was either nice too feminine or too masculine.

Here are all the reviews on the shops we visited, which was almost all.

De Gems – This was the first shop we visited. They carry the famous brand Lazare. Lazare is a branded diamond created by Mr Lazare Kaplan. He invented the cut of the diamond to bring out the fullest shine potential of the diamond. Also, we were told that we can upgrade the diamond anytime and anywhere in the world. Yes. Anywhere. Meaning, if we were to go to an outlet in UK and tell them we want to upgrade the diamond, they will take my diamond back and let us top up the price difference for a bigger diamond. Besides Lazare diamonds, they also carry some GIA diamonds, but when compare them next to Lazare, needless to say – Lazare wins. As for wedding bands, they have the brand Infinity ring. They hardly carry platinum and their rings are mostly not resizable. Sales staff very friendly. If you’re in the One Utama outlet, look for a girl named Rainnie. She’s great.

Habib – The Hearts on Fire diamonds are pretty nice but pricey. Might as well go for Lazare. Their wedding bands are boring. Didn’t bother to look further. Sales staff very stuck up.

Soo Kee – The Brilliant Rose diamonds look very nice. Under the microscope, you can see that the hearts and arrows are different. Quite shiny. As for the wedding bands, it’s just ok. They carry one or two platinum wedding rings. The white gold ones are nothing to shout about.

Love & Co – This is Soo Kee’s sister company and they specialize in couple rings. At first, I thought they have a lot of potential rings. But after choosing for a very long time and visited two times, we still couldn’t find something we like.

Diamonds and Platinum – Their Estrella diamonds look nice. We went to their shop more for wedding bands. They have a lot of platinum range. The couple rings we just okay. It was in this shop that XCool decided that he wants a diamond on his ring too. I thought that was a good idea since diamonds have brought me luck. We couldn’t find a suitable couple ring so we paired two different type of designs together, which look as matching as possible. But we weren’t going to give up and just put that aside as last resort. Somehow, I felt that their workmanship is not too good.

Carat Club – We came here for their Love Diamond. It was very pretty. I almost wanted to get the engagement ring here. At that time, XCool still preferred Lazare so we ended up putting Love Diamond aside. We didn’t revisit this shop for wedding bands.

Tiffany & Co – I was drooling at my dream ring and XCool like it too. But the price was overly high. Maybe next time, in the very near future.

Goldheart – Goldheart carries a lot of platinum. The sales staff told me it’s 100% platinum. I’ve read somewhere that 100% platinum is not possible. I asked her again and again if it’s 95%, she insisted that it’s 100%. Hmm. It was either she was wrong or the company gave her wrong information. She said that’s the reason why we have to wait 3 months for them to send order to ask their factory in Japan to create the rings. Only this Japan’s technology can create 100% platinum Wtf? I don’t buy it la. Lost all confidence with them, I decided to leave and never went back. It’s not like their rings’ designs are something to shout about anyway…

Wah Chan/Poh Kong/TH Jewelry/Selberan/My Diamond – Nothing nice in all these shops. Not to my taste or standard, that is.

Tomei – Their normal rings were not very attractive. Diamonds so so. There was a small showcase of their higher end jewelries – Le Lumiere. We saw a pair that we like. It was a tension setting diamond but it has rose gold on it. Since it’s from Le Lumiere, we decided to go to Le Lumiere store to see more of their rings.

Le Lumiere – Their diamonds are quite shiny but some of the sales staff were not-too-nice. Their wedding bands are nice. Simple but elegant. Workmanship is satisfactory.

At the end, he bought a Lazare diamond for me. Happy! I still haven’t got sick of looking at it (neither is he)

As for wedding bands, we bought a tension setting diamond ring from Le Lumiere. So happy! Finally found a pair of wedding rings with same design that looks feminine and masculine at the same time. We walked a lot of shops in a lot of malls. Trust me, we really did! We visited some shop twice. We each have a 0.19 carat on the ring and it’s in white gold. We decided to go for white gold after all because we prefer to go for bigger diamond than to have platinum rings with the same budget. Here’s a picture of his ring. I haven’t got mine because it needed to be resized again. The shop sales rep made a mistake. Argh! Mine will be the same design only that the band will be thinner making the diamond look bigger (but actually the diamonds are of same carat). I took this photo with his iPhone. When I get mine later, I’ll take a clearer picture of both side by side :)

As a result of all this diamond shopping, XCool became a diamond enthusiast. lol

Rings ……. Checked!
