Pattidana

Published by at 11:52 pm under Life

I woke up super early this morning to go to the Vihara (Buddhist temple). Today, they organized a Pattidana in conjunction with Qing Ming. Pattidana is an event where devotees are welcomed to offer robes, food, flowers and light to the temple or monks. In return, they can transfer the good merits to their departed ones. It is believed that if your departed ones are in a less fortunate place, transferring merits is the only way for us to bring some joy to them so that they can be happier.

Anyway, I will visit the temple whenever there is a Pattidana to transfer merits to my mum. That is the only thing I could do for her. I do not have anything left of her, literally. we’ve disposed her ashes into the ocean as per her wish. This year, I am better. I merely teared a little when we were chanting Loving Kindness chants (Metta Sutta). During my mum’s funeral, we played the chant continuously. Just hearing the chant will make me think of her funeral and how I stared at her in thru a small window on her coffin the whole two nights after everyone left.

I love you, mum. I am very proud of you. After all these years ( 7 years to be exact ), your friends from the Vihara still remember us. I miss you a lot. Here’s a song dedication to you for being the world’s greatest mum. Whenever I listen to this song, I will think of you. Just like him, I would give a lot if I could have one more day with you.

Losing a parent is really painful….cherish them while you still have them.
